The farming project began in 2006, with the purpose of supporting the orphanage in Gitega by selling milk. The project was then extended to Buringa, and we also raise livestock in the Cibitoke project. Progress is currently slow, as it requires a lot of money, energy, and knowledge in this field. Some of the current needs include a new cowshed for the cows, pure water, staff training.
We have also initiated a farming project to help support the orphanage in Gitega. We have 10 acres of land on which we grow rice, cassava and potatoes. A big portion of the land needs irrigation.
We have bakeries on both our project sites. Gitega bakery provides all the bread for the Home, Future Hope School and Gitega International Academy.
Cibitoke bakery provides all the bread for the Home, Future Hope School, and surplus to sell in the local community to provide an income.
We have recently started a sewing project in Cibitoke to teach local women sewing skills so that they can provide for their families. The clothing made for customers during their training period helps to create an income for the orphange.
