Shammah Medical Clinic
The Medical Clinics are part of Burundi YFC's larger centres created so that we can play a transformational role in the surrounding communities by providing quality affordable health care. After almost two years of preparation and construction, the medical clinic is ready to start operations. It will not only offer care to the children at the Gitega orphanage but also to the sorrounding community. We will be launching the clinic soon and participate in curbing Malaria, AIDS & Malnutrition that are prevalent in Burundi.
We thank God for the medical equipment for the Clinic which our Canadian friends sent. The container arrived beginning of May; Since Burundi joined the East African Community last July, the government has since changed their policies and are no-longer giving tax exemptions; even to charities. It has since been cleared from customs. We will need Doctors and Nurses (as well as other admin staff) to come and volunteer with us as well as train our staff.
A team of 9 dentists from South Carolina, USA and 21 Burundi Youth for Christ volunteers, came to serve the local community early May 2010. The dentists spent 5 days extracting teeth for those in desperate need, with the volunteers assisted them through translation and evangelizing. They saw at least 790 people, of which 484 accepted Christ! Everybody worked tirelessly over the 5 days with great attitudes to serve and showing Christ to the local community.
